About the Lighthouse

Since 1946, Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches has been providing direct education and rehabilitation services to people who are blind or visually impaired in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. Our private, nonprofit organization is the only one of its kind based in West Palm Beach, Florida.

We serve thousands of individuals of all ages:

  • Children and young adults
  • People of working age
  • Our area's fasting growing population with age-related vision loss

We provide services to family members and caregivers of those who are blind. We offer consultation and education to businesses, agencies, institutions, and organizations in the community that employ or interact with persons who are blind or visually impaired.

Except for low vision services, no fees are charged, and services are funded almost entirely by charitable support. The Association for Education & Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired fully accredits Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches for the Blind and Low Vision (AER).

Mission

To assist persons with visual impairments to develop their capabilities to the fullest and utilize them in life's pursuits, which are the right and privilege of all.

Value Statement

To achieve an accessible community for the blind and visually impaired by utilizing public recognition, structured foundation, and organizational promotion.
