Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches: Featured in Palm Beach Society's March 14th Edition

March 7, 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches has been featured as the cover story in the March 14-20 edition of Palm Beach Society! The article, titled "Empowering Vision, Inspiring Independence," highlights the transformative work we do to support individuals who are blind or visually impaired (B/VI) across Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties.

A Beacon of Hope for the B/VI Community

Since 1946, Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches (LHPB) has been dedicated to providing vital services, education, and resources to individuals of all ages—babies, children, young adults, working professionals, and seniors. As the only private, nonprofit organization of its kind in West Palm Beach, LHPB stands out for its commitment to empowering the blind and visually impaired to live full, independent lives.

Our mission goes beyond serving individuals; we provide training for families, caregivers, and even institutions to create inclusive environments for the B/VI community. Through services funded almost entirely by charitable donations, we are proud to be fully accredited by the National Accreditation Council.

Spotlighting Our Life-Changing Programs

The Palm Beach Society feature captures the heart of our work, including programs like:

  • The Youth Program: Offering early intervention vision screenings for children and helping them develop essential life skills.
  • Technology Training: Providing clients with tools to access education, employment, and daily life independently.
  • Well-Being and Independence Living for Adults Program: Empowering adults to regain independence and confidence through mobility training, education, and hands-on activities.

Celebrating Our Achievements

  • The article also highlights some key moments from the past year:White Cane Awareness Proclamation: In October 2024, Mayor Keith James of West Palm Beach issued a proclamation recognizing White Cane Day, celebrating the achievements of individuals in the B/VI community.
  • Culinary Certification Program: Six clients graduated from the Recipes for Success program, gaining the confidence to pursue careers in the culinary arts.
  • Fashion and Inclusion: In preparation for our Annual EnVision Luncheon in March 2025, LHPB partnered with Anne Fontaine to showcase B/VI models in a video celebrating inclusivity and empowerment.

Inspiring Independence

From a college professor who regained their career after vision loss to seniors adjusting to age-related changes, our clients’ stories are a testament to resilience. With our support, they rediscover independence and live fuller lives. Their journeys inspire us to continue breaking down barriers and helping individuals achieve their dreams.
