Community Education

The Lighthouse shares its expertise throughout the community so that those who encounter or work with people who are blind or visually impaired know how to interact in the most effective and respectful way.

In-Service Training

The Lighthouse provides presentations and in-service training programs in senior centers, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, employers, and other agencies. This training often includes role playing in which participants take turns wearing “occluders” to temporarily simulate the experience of a person with a visual impairment. Skills taught include sighted guide, communication techniques and more.

Presentations are also available for civic groups, businesses, or other groups interested in learning about the Lighthouse.

Health Fairs

The Lighthouse takes part in health and information fairs, which is important to increase awareness of our services and to make contact with prospective participants, as well as other referring agencies.
